Can I Get a Single One-Off Metal Casting Made in the US With No Minimum Order?
Yes. One Off Castings has no minimum order and welcomes single-part orders — one casting is a normal job here, not a favor. Because we mold patternlessly (robotic molding plus 3D-printed sand molds, with no hard tooling to build), there is no pattern cost to spread across a big run, so a quantity of one is economical instead of prohibitive. We are a US foundry in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and many one-off parts ship in about 2–4 weeks.
Can I really get just one metal casting made?
Yes — and you do not have to talk anyone into it. Most foundries quote you a minimum of 50, 100, or 500 pieces because they build a physical pattern (wood, urethane, or metal tooling) before they can mold your part. That pattern costs real money and real weeks, and the only way the shop recovers it is to spread it across a large run. So the answer you usually get to "I need one" is "our minimum is a hundred."
One Off Castings is built the opposite way. There is no minimum order, and a single casting is a standard job. A typical one-off runs from 1 to 100 pieces, with the tightest runs from 1 to 50. This is engineering-grade, spec-driven industrial casting — the kind of part that goes into a pump, a gearbox, a valve, or a machine frame — not decorative or hobby work. If your part has a print, an alloy, or a fit it has to hold, you are in the right place.

Why is one piece economical? (No pattern, no tooling to amortize)
The reason a one-off is normally expensive is the pattern — not the metal. Patternless casting removes that cost entirely. We build the mold directly from a digital model using four in-house ABB robotic molders and industrial 3D sand printing, so there is no pattern shop, no core boxes, and nothing to amortize.
That changes the math. The price of your single casting reflects the engineering, the mold, the melt, heat treatment, and finishing — the actual work of making the part — rather than a tooling charge divided across a run you did not want. Per-piece cost still eases a little as quantity climbs, but a quantity of one is no longer penalized. It also changes the second and third part. Because the geometry lives as a digital model rather than a physical pattern, ordering another one later is just another print job — no pattern to pull out of storage, dust off, and hope is still dimensionally true. That is a real advantage for maintenance stock: you can cast one now and repeat it on demand next year without re-tooling.
What does a single one-off casting job involve?
A one-off runs through the same disciplined path as any casting we pour — everything in-house, under one roof:
- Get the geometry in. Send a CAD model if you have one. If you do not, we reverse-engineer the part from a sample, a 3D scan, or clear photos with dimensions — no original drawings required. See legacy part replication.
- Simulate the pour. Before any metal moves, we run full solidification simulation in MAGMA and NovaCast to catch shrink, hot spots, and porosity while they are still fixable on screen.
- Build the mold, tooling-free. A 3D sand printer or one of our robotic molders builds the mold straight from the model. No pattern, no wait.
- Pour the specified alloy. We melt to your spec and verify chemistry with spectrometry before it goes in the mold.
- Heat-treat and machine. In-house heat treatment develops the required mechanical properties, then in-house CNC machining finishes critical-fit surfaces to print.
- Inspect and certify. Every casting gets certified inspection — liquid penetrant (LPI), magnetic particle (MPI), spectrometry, and tensile-bar testing — so the one part you ordered is documented and traceable.
What metals and specs can you cast a one-off in?
We pour a full range of engineering alloys for single and short-run parts, matched to common ASTM grades:

If the original alloy is undocumented — common on older or obsolete parts — we identify it with optical-emission spectrometry on your sample and match the closest ASTM grade. If the part has been failing in service, a one-off is also a good moment to upgrade the alloy rather than reproduce a known weak point.
How long does a single casting take?
Many one-off parts ship in about 2–4 weeks, measured from an approved model or scan through final inspection. Size, alloy, and heat-treat path move that number, but the patternless route consistently removes the slowest step in traditional casting: the 8–16 weeks a conventional foundry needs just to build new pattern tooling before it can pour the first piece. Because simulation, molding, heat treatment, machining, and inspection are all in-house, the schedule stays tight and predictable.
Who orders single, no-minimum castings — and who shouldn't?
This page exists so the right buyers find us and the wrong ones do not waste their time. A single, no-minimum casting is a strong fit when you are:
- Maintenance or reliability (MRO). A downtime-critical part cracked or wore out, the OEM is slow, expensive, or gone, and you need one certified replacement fast.
- Engineering / R&D. You need one prototype casting in a real production alloy to test fit, function, and machining before committing to tooling or a larger run.
- Building a one-off complex part. A specialty machine, a custom assembly, or a bridge run while permanent tooling is developed elsewhere.
It helps to know how a one-off differs from a prototype and from production. A prototype casting is a one-off you make to learn something — to check fit, machining, or a design change before you commit. A one-off replacement is a finished, certified part that goes straight back into service. And a short bridge run is a small batch that keeps you running while permanent tooling is built somewhere. All three start the same way here, with no minimum, so you do not have to decide which bucket you are in before you call.
It is not a fit for decorative trinkets, jewelry, or hobby pours. We are an industrial foundry: parts here are made to a drawing, an alloy, and an inspection standard. If your part has a spec and has to perform, one is enough to get started.
What do you need to quote a one-off casting?
The more you can send, the faster and tighter the quote. Useful information for a single-part order:
- A CAD model, or a physical sample / clear photos with key dimensions if there is no model.
- The alloy or industry spec, if you know it — and if you do not, that is fine, we will identify it.
- The application: what the part does, and any temperature, pressure, or wear conditions it sees.
- Quantity (one is normal) and the deadline you are working against.
- Any drawings, manuals, or data sheets you still have, even partial ones.

Is there really no minimum order quantity?
Correct — there is no minimum. A single casting is a normal order for us, not an exception we make grudgingly. Our whole workflow is built for one-offs and short runs, so a quantity of one, five, or a dozen is priced and scheduled like any other job.
Is one casting a lot more expensive per piece than a batch?
Less than you would expect. At a traditional foundry the sticker shock on a one-off comes from pattern tooling that has to be paid for whether you order one part or a hundred. We mold patternlessly, so there is no pattern to amortize — the cost of your one-off reflects engineering, the mold, the melt, and finishing, not a volume penalty. There is still a modest per-piece savings as quantity climbs, but you are not punished for needing just one.
Do I need CAD drawings to order a single part?
No. If you have a CAD model, send it. If you do not, we can reverse-engineer the part from a physical sample, a 3D scan, or clear photos with key dimensions — no original drawings required. This is how most legacy and obsolete replacements start.
